Freighter aircraft operators UPS, FedEx Express and Atlas Air Worldwide are among ten US passenger and cargo airlines that have asked Congress for at least $29bn in cash grants to help maintain industry jobs during the Coronavirus pandemic.
In a letter from industry body Airlines for America (A4A), the carrier CEOs ask policitians to “move swiftly to pass a bipartisan bill with worker payroll protections to protect and preserve the industry’s 750,000 direct employees”.
It stated: “Unless worker payroll protection grants are passed immediately, many of us will be forced to take draconian measures such as furloughs.
“The breadth and immediacy of the need to act cannot be overstated. It is urgent and unprecedented.”
