Rickenbacker International Airport (LCK) recently became the world’s only airport serving Korean Air Cargo’s new fleet of cargo-converted passenger aircraft.

Korean Air Cargo has initiated new non-stop cargo service between Seoul, and Columbus, Ohio.

The passenger seats of two of Korean Air Cargo’s Boeing 777-300 aircraft were removed in order to allow more freight capacity. This reconfiguring for cargo takes advantage of otherwise idle aircraft, temporarily out of commission due to the suspension of international passenger flights.

These cargo-only flights carrying clothing, automobile parts, electronics parts and other products link Korean Air Cargo’s extensive cargo hub in Seoul to Columbus.

Rickenbacker International is one of the world’s only cargo-dedicated airports, moving airfreight between planes and trucks faster than any other global gateway, and serving the eastern half of the United States and Canada.

“We are proud and honored to work with Korean Air Cargo to serve these new flights,” said Joseph R. Nardone, President & CEO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority.

“Progressive companies like Korean Air Cargo are drawn to Rickenbacker’s geographic advantage, world-class logistics assets and robust logistics ecosystem. Thanks to our supportive air freight forwarding community and hardworking cargo handling teams, we are well-positioned to continue expanding our service.”

“Columbus is an emerging cargo base for American retail distribution and logistics companies,” said JD Eum, Senior VP of Korean Air Cargo. “We are pleased to enter into this new partnership with Rickenbacker, a leading cargo airport that is helping us connect with our customers around the globe.”

Korean Air Cargo is currently running six weekly flights out of LCK. Click here to view a schedule.

As the initial demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) wanes, some cargo companies are beginning to see more traditional shipments such as auto parts and electronics.
