Hong Kong airport handled 399,000 tonnes of cargo in June, a 11.5% year on year increase.

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) said that the growth of cargo volume was mainly attributed to double-digit growth in both transshipments and imports compared to the same month last year. Exports also increased by 8% year on year. Cargo to and from Southeast Asia experienced the most significant increase during the month.

Due to the on-going COVID-19 situation, passenger traffic remained significantly below pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019.

Over the first half of the year, HKIA saw cargo throughput rise 11.9% to 2.3m tonnes.

On a 12-month rolling basis, cargo throughput saw an increase of 3.0% to 4.7m tonnes.
