The Bolloré Logistics hub in Luxembourg used a Cargolux B747 freighter to transport a machine from China that can produce one million surgical masks per week.

The shipper, Luxembourg-based ALLPHARMA, will soon have six machines in place, able to produce 4m surgical masks and 650,000 FFP2 type masks per week.

“As a partner and pharmacist, we had to have an answer and a solution in order to solve the problem of import dependency for elements that are essential to the protection and safety of caregivers, vulnerable people and of course the population as a whole” said Thierry Derochette and Nicolas Melica, respectively Director and Head Pharmacist of ALLPHARMA.

Said a Bolloré spokesperson: “The new order, consisting of five packages with a total weight of 1,600 kg, was handled by the Bolloré Logistics teams in China who worked together to manage administrative procedures (in particular customs compliance documents) and ensure the transport of the packages from warehouses in Shanghai before shipment by air. On arrival, the packages were placed in the Bolloré Logistics warehouse, awaiting delivery to the customer.”

Marc Hansen, Manager of the Bolloré Logistics Luxembourg hub, said: “The Covid-19 epidemic has allowed us to demonstrate the full extent of our ability to deal with complex flows under very tight deadlines.

“Thanks to the mobilisation of all our partners as well as the commitment of our teams in the field, we are perfectly equipped to face emergency situations and ensure continuity of supply for our customers, whether they are SMEs or large international groups.”

This operation was facilitated by support from partners of Bolloré Logistics Luxembourg, in particular LuxairCARGO, Cargolux and Arthur Welter.

Added the spokesperson: “Since the start of the crisis, Bolloré Logistics Luxembourg has played a major role as a hub for the importation of protective masks and their reshipment throughout Europe.

“Between March and June, teams handled an average of 70 charters and imported nearly one billion protective masks.”
