L-R: Volker Dunkake and Thomas Baumert

Volker Dunkake and Thomas Baumert are heading the COVID vaccine task force team of global GSSA, Germany’s ATC Aviation.

Dunkake was formerly in the management of Lufthansa Cargo Charter, while Baumert was previously in Air FranceKLM’s pharma team for Central Europe.

Based in the Frankfurt Head Office of ATC Aviation Services, both men have been preparing solutions for the global vaccine distribution: identifying and contacting all relevant stakeholders such as shippers, agents, ground handlers, airlines, container providers and trucking companies.

The taskforce is coordinating the worldwide pharma activities in the ATC organization. On regional levels, the country managers and their pharma experts on site are responsible for the local contacts and the implementation of the respective solutions.

It is expected that the main origins for production will be in Europe, India, Brazil, Korea, China and the US. Together with their airline partners, the GSSA controls 300,000 tons of annual capacity and serves more than 500 destinations globally.

ATC will outline any solution using charter capacities on freighters and preighters.

Ingo Zimmer, Group CEO ATC Aviation Services stated: “We are well aware about the importance of our role in the supply chain of the vaccines and we are ready.”
