Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) cargo volumes in August remained steady at 374,000 tonnes, recording a 3.5% drop year-on-year, while freighter movements saw year-on-year growth of 21.5% to 5,960, up from 4,906.
Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) traffic figures for August show that although cargo transshipments experienced a significant decrease due to shortage of belly capacity on passenger flights, exports and imports increased by 8% and 4% respectively compared to the same month last year.
Overall cargo throughput to and from Southeast Asia and Mainland China experienced the most significant decreases during the month.
Over the first eight months of the year, HKIA cargo throughput saw a decrease of 9.0% to 2.8m tonnes.
On a 12-month rolling basis, cargo throughput was 4.5m tonnes, down 7.1% compared to the same period last year.
